Academic Tutoring

Tutoring Program

The Academy of Creative Learning Tutoring program is one of the most cutting-edge, highly personalized, multi-media learning programs available in the valley. Most of the school districts in the valley use Harcourt Publishers for their reading program. In our tutoring program we use Harcourt’s latest version of their reading program, which hasn’t even been made available to most districts yet. It is a user friendly, interactive, research-driven program, which integrates seamlessly with all of the reading programs used by the public schools. It is based on National, State and District standards.

We also use Harcourt’s program for math, which offers the same cutting-edge, multi-media advantages as the reading program.

Most skills need to be practiced on a regular, daily basis in order for the student to become adept and accomplished. Just as a child needs to practice daily over time to become an accomplished athlete or musician, so too does he or she need daily practice in academic skills in order to develop efficiency and skill.

Most students come for tutoring twice per week. That leaves 4 or 5 days in which students work independently at home to complete their homework assignments. Students and parents will have access to our online reading and math programs so they can log on any day of the week from home. Assignments can usually be done in about twenty minutes, 3 or 4 days per week. Students are assessed on average, about once every two weeks.

It may seem that it would be an additional burden on students to complete their tutoring homework on top of their school homework. However, parents generally find that their children end up with more time to pursue other interests because they’ve developed far more efficient study habits, along with the skills to do both their tutoring assignments and schoolwork quickly and accurately without wasting time.

Our students will learn to assume most, if not all of the responsibility for their own study. Some parental involvement, particularly in the beginning, helps to establish the routine and get the process off to a good start.

Students are most successful when the student, parent and instructor work together to ensure that the child systematically advances to the best of his or her ability.

Here are some things you can do as a parent to help ensure your child’s success:

1.    Make sure your child has a regular study time for completing assignments and homework.
2.    Make sure the study area is free from distractions such as noise or clutter.
3.    Make sure assignments are completed daily.
4.    Communicate with instructor concerning your child’s progress.

Schedule & Pricing

Students typically come for one hour, twice per week, either Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday. Scheduling is subject to teacher availability.

Tuition is $40 per hour.

Tuition is due monthly in advance.

For a student who is coming twice per week, the monthly tuition would be $320

If you would like to pay by credit card, we can automatically charge your card monthly. If you pay by check, payment is due by the first day of each month.

Free Skills Assessment ($185 value)

We offer a free Skills Assessment to accurately pinpoint the specific areas in which your child needs the most improvement. This is done through a combination of oral evaluation, reading and written assessments, and multi-media assessments. Our assessments are time-tested, research-driven and results oriented.  Registration and tuition payment must be received in order to receive your free Skills Assessment. Assessments are done by appointment with our Academic Skills & Curriculum Director.

Personalized Instruction

All of our instructors are dedicated, experienced, certified educators who have a passion for education and an earnest desire to help children succeed. Our instructors regard themselves not only as teachers in the traditional sense, but also as mentors and coaches in your child’s progress toward their ultimate academic goals. They play a very valuable role in providing the direction, support and encouragement that will guide the student toward performing at his or her peak potential. Instructors will work individually with your child on the specific areas and skills that he or she needs to be sure their academic needs are met.

Progress Reports

One of the most powerful indicators of our commitment to your child’s success is our policy of periodically scheduled progress reports. We feel that communication is vital in keeping you informed about the progress that your child is making. We are continually monitoring and evaluating your child’s progress to be sure that all goals are being met. We also like to work closely with your child’s schoolteacher so that we can integrate what we do with what they are doing at school.

Incentive Programs

The Academy helps motivate your child through an exciting incentive program, which gives them tokens for various things like completed work, reaching individual milestones, good grades, and improvement on their assessments. These tokens can be used immediately to purchase gifts from our Academy Store or saved up for bigger prizes.
